When a factory changes one of its raw material suppliers, the finished product may look exactly the same at first glance.

The factory may not have intended to change the product at all. From their perspective, the replacement material may simply be an acceptable alternative. For the buyer, however, that assumption can create problems if the original material was an important part of the approved product specification.
Why Factories Change Material Suppliers
There are plenty of legitimate reasons for changing suppliers.
A previous supplier may increase prices, experience shortages, struggle with delivery times, or discontinue a particular material. The factory might also find a local supplier offering better commercial terms.
None of these situations automatically indicate a quality problem.
The concern arises when the replacement material isn’t properly evaluated before being introduced into production. Even materials that appear equivalent on paper can behave differently during manufacturing.
